Saturday night, the Chicago Cubs will send Travis Wood to the mound to face Marco Estrada and the Milwaukee Brewers.  It will be the 5 starts of the season for both pitchers.

Travis Wood got his first victory of the season after allowing a run on 6 hits in 7 innings in his last start.  Wood didn’t issue a single walk as he struck out 9.  The win brought Wood’s record up to 1 – 2 with a 2.52 ERA.  Last season, Wood was 9 – 12 with a 3.11 ERA in 32 starts. 

In 2013, Wood didn’t get the decision in his lone start against the Brewers.  He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits in 6.1 innings.   Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun has torched Wood in the past.  Braun has a career .368 average with 4 doubles, a homer and 5 RBIs when facing Wood.

Marco Estrada didn’t get the decision despite a solid 6 inning effort where he allowed a run on 6 hits without issuing a walk while striking out 4.  The one run came on a solo homer and that was the only real blemish on the box score for Estrada.  Overall, Estrada is 1 – 1 with a 2.66 ERA.  Last season, Estrada went 7 - 4 with an ERA of 3.87 in 21 starts.

In 2013, Estrada went 2 – 0 with an ERA of 3.60 in 3 starts against the Cubs.  Chicago hitters are only batting .188 against Estrada but Starlin Castro could be an issue.  Castro is batting .389 with 2 doubles, a triple and 2 RBIs against Estrada.
