Rookie Kyle Hendricks (1-1) will make his fourth Major League start for the Chicago Cubs when they take on Hyun-Jin Ryu (12-5) and the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.

On Sunday, 24-year-old Kyle Hendricks made his third start of the year against the St. Louis Cardinals and ended up suffering his first Major League loss. He did pitch well in that game, though, by giving up just one run in 6.1 innings and striking out two without walking a batter. Through three starts, he now has a 2.33 ERA and he has struck out 14 batters in 19.1 innings.

All of the Dodgers will be going up against Hendricks for the first time on Friday night. So far, he has held left-handed hitters to just a .233 batting average.

Second-year starter Hyun-Jin Ryu had a strong start against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday and won his third game in a row. He lasted six innings in that start and allowed three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out seven. His ERA is now down to 3.44 and he has only given up eight home runs in 117.2 innings of work.

Cubs outfielder Justin Ruggiano is hitless in four at-bats against Ryu in his career with no walks and a strikeout.
