After a great July, Jake Arrieta (6-2) will be making his first August start for the Chicago Cubs when they face Jordan Lyles (5-1) and the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night.

Last Thursday against the Colorado Rockies, Jake Arrieta pitched seven strong innings and ended up getting the win. He allowed just one run in those seven innings of work and struck out seven batters while walking two. His ERA is now down to a sublime 2.11 and he has only given up two home runs in 98 innings this season.

Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau has faced Arrieta more than all of the other Rockies, but he is just 2-for-11 against him with three walks and three strikeouts. All-Star Charlie Blackmon is hitless against him in three at-bats with two strikeouts.

Big right-hander Jordan Lyles last made a start for the Rockies back on June 4, when he allowed four runs (two earned) to the Diamondbacks and finished with a no decision. In his two rehab games in the minors, he pitched a total of 8.1 innings and allowed no runs while striking out eight batters and walking four.

Cubs outfielder Nate Schierholtz has three hits in six plate appearance versus Lyles with two RBI and two strikeouts. Shortstop Starlin Castro has just one hit in 11 at-bats against him in his career with a walk and two strikeouts.
