Wednesday night, the Chicago Cubs will take the field behind Edwin Jackson as they take on the Cincinnati Reds and Tony Cingrani. It will be the 6th start for both pitchers. 

Edwin Jackson makes this start after his last one was rained out.  He’s carrying a 1 – 2 record with an ERA of 5.02.  Jackson’s last outing was a losing affair after allowing 3 runs on 5 hits in 7 innings with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.   Last season, Jackson went 8 – 18 with an ERA of 4.98 in 31 starts.

In 2013, Jackson was 1 – 1 with an ERA of 3.75 in 2 starts against the Reds.  This season, Jackson got his only win against the Reds after going 5.2 innings and allowing 2 runs on 8 hits.  Jackson will need to pitch around Cincinnati’s Joey Votto.  Votto is batting .389 against Jackson with 2 homers and 2 RBIs. 

Tony Cingrani also comes into this one with an extra day of rest after his Monday start (which would have been against Edwin Jackson) was rained out.  Cingrani improved his record to 2 – 2 and his ERA to 2.86 after winning his last start.  In that outing, Cingrani went 6 innings and allowed just a run on 6 hits with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts.  Last season, Cingrani was 7 – 4 with an ERA of 2.92 in 18 starts and 5 relief appearances.

In 2013, Cingrani was 1 – 1 with an ERA of 4.14 in 4 starts. This season, Cingrani lost his only start against the Cubs after allowing 3 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts.   But the Chicago lineup is only batting .196 against Cingrani.
