On Thursday the Chicago Cubs will head to the south side to take on the Chicago White Sox at US Cellular Field. The Cubs will be sending Jake Arrieta to the mound while the White Sox will be sending Scott Carroll to the hill.

Jake Arrieta made his first start of the season on May 3 against the St. Louis Cardinals. Arrieta came out and threw a gem and although he didn’t get the decision, he let management know he was up for the challenge. Arrieta pitched 5.1 innings and only gave up four hits and no runs with seven strikeouts and only two walks.

Next up for Arrieta are the White Sox. Arrieta has faced eight different current White Sox players and they are hitting .256 against him. Alexei Ramirez has tallied three hits in eight at bats against Arrieta with an RBI. He’s also given up multiple hits to Paul Konerko, who has three RBIs when facing Arrieta.

The White Sox are countering with Scott Carroll who got his first start of the season on April 27 against the Tampa Bay Rays. Carroll pitched six innings and gave up five hits and two unearned runs. The White Sox weren’t able to give Carroll any run support so he walked away with his first loss of the season. However, Carroll pitched well and he’ll be looking to follow up that performance with another good one when he faces the Cubs.
