Edwin Jackson will attempt to win his first game since June 20 when the Chicago Cubs go up against Trevor Cahill and the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night.

Last Saturday, Edwin Jackson only made it through 3.2 innings against the Atlanta Braves and ended up suffering his 10th loss of the year. He gave up a season-high nine earned runs on seven hits in that game while striking out three batters and walking four. Jackson is now 5-10 on the season and he has given up 10 hits per nine innings.

Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill has just a .195 batting average against Jackson in 41 at-bats, but he has hit two home runs off of him. Gerardo Parra is 5-for-14 against Jackson with two walks and two RBI.

Trevor Cahill last made a start for the Diamondbacks way back on April 13, when he was beaten by the Los Angeles Dodgers in his fourth straight loss to start the season. Since then, he has pitched exclusively out of the bullpen and has pitched done pretty well in that role. He has a 3.04 ERA out of the pen and a 5.66 ERA overall on the season.

Cubs veteran Nate Schierholtz is hitless against Cahill in 10 at-bats with three strikeouts, while Darwin Barney is 1-for-3 against him and is the only player on the Cubs who has hit a home run off of the right-hander.
