Friday night, Jake Peavy will take the hill for the Boston Red Sox as they face Mark Buehrle and the Toronto Blue Jays.  It will be the 5th starts of the season for both of the veteran pitchers.

Jake Peavy is still looking for a decision after his first 4 stars of the season.  In his last outing, Peavy went 5.2 innings and surrendered 5 runs on 10 hits (including a homer) while striking out 5 and walking 4.  His ERA of 3.33 could be better and he has been issuing a lot of walks so far this season.  Last season he issued 36 walks and already he has issued 14 free passes this season.   Splitting his time with the Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox in 2013, Peavy went 12 -5 with a 4.17 ERA in 23 starts.

Last season, Peavy lost his only start against the Blue Jays.  Toronto’s Adam Lind has been a tough out for Peavy.  Lind is batting .364 with a homer and 3 RBIs against the veteran right-hander.

Bark Buehrle has been astonishing to start the season as he is 4 – 0 with an ERA of 0.64 so far.  In his last start, he pitched 7 shutout innings and gave up just 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 3.  He is easily pitching the best ball of his career and way above 2013’s record of 12 – 10 with an ERA of 4.15 in 33 starts.

Last season, Buehrle went 2 – 1 in 5 starts against the Red Sox.  He will need to watch Boston’s David Ortiz carefully. Ortiz is a career .329 hitter against Buehrle with 3 home runs and 13 RBIs.
