Saturday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox will give the ball to Jake Peavy as they square off against the Tampa Bay Rays and David Price. Peavy makes his 10th start of the season as Price makes his 11th.

Jake Peavy fell to 1 – 2 with an ERA of 4.33 after a rough outing his last time out.  In that start, Peavy surrendered 5 runs on 11 hits in 6 innings of work.  He didn’t issue any walks but only had 2 strikeouts.   This season has been a struggle for Peavy and he might not be able to post results as good as the ones from 2013 when he went 12 – 5 with a 4.17 ERA in 23 starts for the Red Sox and White Sox.

Last season, Peavy was 1 – 0 with a 4.26 ERA in 2 starts against the Rays.  This season, Peavy took a loss to Tampa Bay after giving up just 2 runs on 3 hits in 6.1 innings of work.  

David Price lost his last outing and that evened his record to 4 – 4 with an ERA of 4.28.  In that start, Price gave up 6 runs on 11 hits in 6.1 innings as he walked no one and struck out 7.   Price has been up and down this season and he just might match last season’s 10 – 8 record and 3.33 ERA in 27 starts.

In 2013, Price was 2 - 2 with a 2.48 ERA in 5 starts against the Red Sox.  In his career, he has held the Red Sox to a .223 batting average with 5 homers and 16 RBIs in 224 at-bats.
