Right-hander Brandon Workman is expected to get the spot start for the Boston Red Sox on Sunday afternoon and will face Jake Odorizzi and the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Red Sox decided to send Brandon Workman down to the minors earlier this season to convert him to a starter after spending last season as a reliever at the big league level. In seven starts down in the minors, he was 3-1 with a 5.12 ERA and he struck out 34 batters in 38.2 innings.

Rays first baseman James Loney has faced Workman four times in his career and has two hits, including a home run. Third baseman Evan Longoria is 2-for-4 against him with a double and an RBI.

24-year-old Jake Odorizzi had one of his shortest outings of the season last week against the Oakland Athletics and ended up picking up his fourth loss of the year. He could only pitch 4.2 innings in that game and gave up three earned runs on four hits while striking out eight and walking a season-high five batters. He is now 2-4 on the season with a 4.98 ERA, but he does have 52 strikeouts through 43.1 innings.

No one on the Red Sox has faced Odorizzi more than three times. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia and DH David Ortiz are the only players on Boston who have gotten hits against him.
