On Thursday night, Brandon Workman (1-4) will be hoping that he can snap his four-game losing streak when he and the Boston Red Sox Adam face Wainwright (13-6) and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Brandon Workman ended his month of July with an 0-3 record after he was beaten by the Toronto Blue Jays last Wednesday. He pitched five innings in that outing and allowed five runs (two earned) on four base hits while walking four batters and striking out two. He now has a 4.08 ERA on the year and he has only given up 7.4 hits per nine innings.

The Cardinals will be facing Workman for the first time on Thursday night. They can expect to see his 91-92 mph fastball about 50 percent of the time, but that is his lowest-rated pitch this season.

Adam Wainwright had one of his worst starts of the year last week against the Milwaukee Brewers and ended up suffering his sixth loss of the season. He pitched 5.1 innings in that start and allowed seven runs on nine hits while striking out five batters and walking three. He still has an excellent 2.26 ERA on the year and he has only given up 119 hits in 155 innings of work.

Red Sox outfielder Yoenis Cespedes has no hits in his four at-bats against Wainwright with three strikeouts. The rest of the Red Sox will be going up against the right-hander for the first time on Thursday.
