On Saturday night, Boston Red Sox left-hander Jon Lester will take his 8-7 record up against 11-game winner Masahiro Tanaka and the New York Yankees.

Jon Lester pitched well enough to get the win over the Oakland Athletics on Sunday, but he has to settle for the no decision in a game the Red Sox eventually won 7-6. He gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits in 7.2 innings of work in that game while walking two and striking out four. Lester has struck out 109 batters in 106 innings of work this season and he has only given up eight home runs.

Veteran shortstop Derek Jeter has 23 hits in his 68 at-bats against Lester with a double, a home run and nine RBI. Second baseman Kelly Johnson is just 1-for-15 against the left-hander with four strikeouts.

Masahiro Tanaka had another good start last Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles, but he came away with his second loss of the year. He pitched seven innings in that game and allowed three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out six. Through 15 starts, Tanaka has an 11-2 record and currently leads the league with his 2.11 ERA.

The Red Sox have faced Tanaka already this season and did pretty well against him compared to most other teams. Mike Napoli had two hits against him in three at-bats with a double and a solo home run.
