It was the first victory in New York for Capuano since he joined the Yankees in mid-July. He started the year with the Boston Red Sox and after getting released, spent time in the Colorado Rockies farm system. Last season, Capuano started 20 games and made 4 relief appearances for the Los Angeles Dodgers en route to a 4 -7 record and a 4.26 ERA.

Capuano lost his only start against the Red Sox in 2013. He made his 2^nd start as a Yankee against Boston in the beginning of August and came away with a loss after allowing 4 runs and 8 hits in 6.1 innings.
