Clay Buchholz (7-8), who has won two starts in a row, will take the mound for the Boston Red Sox when they face Liam Hendriks (1-1) and the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night.

Last week against the Toronto Blue Jays, Clay Buchholz pitched 6.1 innings and ended up with his seventh win of the year. He gave up just two runs on four base hits in that game while striking out five batters and walking two. Buchholz now has a 5.29 ERA on the season and he has struck out 112 hitters in 146.1 innings of work.

Royals outfielder Alex Gordon is 5-for-11 against Buchholz in his career with a double, a home run and two RBI. Billy Butler is just 3-for-15 against him with no extra-base hits and two strikeouts.

Right-hander Liam Hendriks made his second start as a member of the Royals last week and was defeated by the New York Yankees. He could only make it through four innings in that outing after giving up four runs (three earned) on seven base hits while walking zero and striking out three. Hendriks has a 4.81 ERA this season, but he has only walked four batters in 24.1 innings.

Red Sox slugger Yoenis Cespedes has three hits in 11 at-bats against Hendriks in his career with a home run and four RBI. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia is 3-for-3 against him with a double and a triple.
