Sunday night, John Lackey will take the hill for the Boston Red Sox as they square off against Anibal Sanchez and the Detroit Tigers. It will be Lackey’s 13th start and Sanchez’s 10th.

John Lackey took a loss his last time out and that dropped his record to 4 – 2 with a 3.28 ERA.  Lackey wasn’t that bad though as he gave up just 3 runs on 8 hits in 8 innings. He issued 2 walks while striking out 3. Lackey is still on pace to post better numbers than in 2013 when he went 10 – 13 with a 3.52 ERA in 29 starts.

Last season, Lackey was 0 – 1 with a 3.14 ERA in 2 starts against the Tigers. This season, Lackey took a loss against Detroit after allowing 6 runs on 9 hits (including a home run) in 5.1 innings of work. He struck out 4 while walking 2.

Anibal Sanchez pitched to his 2nd straight no-decision in his last outing and that held his record at 2 - 2 with a 2.15 ERA.  Sanchez just didn’t get any run support as he pitched 7 scoreless innings and allowed just 2 hits and no walks while striking out 5.   It will be tough for Sanchez to match last season’s results when he went 14 – 8 with a 2.57 ERA in 29 starts.

In 2013, Sanchez didn’t get to face the Red Sox but he has faced them this season.  Sanchez picked up his first win of the year after holding Boston to 2 runs on 5 hits in 5 innings of work.
