Wednesday night, the Boston Red Sox and Brandon Workman will square off against the Cleveland Indians and Corey Kluber.  It will be Workman’s 3rd start and 6th appearance as Kluber makes his 13th start.

Brandon Workman still hasn’t registered a decision in any of his starts this season as he carries a 3.24 ERA.  In his last start, Workman allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 5.1 innings of work as he walked 3 and struck out 4. Last season, Workman started 3 games and appeared in 17 games en route to a 6 – 3 record and an ERA of 4.97. 

In 2013, Workman didn’t face the Indians and has never faced any of their hitters in the past. But with a good scouting report and some help from the rest of the pitching staff, he should be able to handle the Indians.

Corey Kluber added another win in his last start to give him a 6 – 3 record with a 3.04 ERA. In that outing, Kluber surrendered 2 runs on 5 hits (including a home run) in 7.1 innings of work.  He walked 1 while striking out 12.  At this rate, Kluber should have no problem posting better results than in 2013 when he went 11 – 5 with a 3.85 ERA in 24 starts and 2 relief appearances.

Last season, Kluber didn’t get a decision in a start and a relief appearance against the Red Sox. Kluber has pitched well against the Red Sox but he might want to keep an eye on Daniel Nava.  Nava is 2 of 4 with 2 RBIs against the right-hander.
