Wednesday evening, the Boston Red Sox will give the ball to Clay Buchholz as the Chicago White Sox start John Danks. Both pitchers will be making their third starts of the season.

Clay Buchholz took the loss in his last start after surrendering 4 runs on 7 hits (including a home run) in 6 innings with 6 strikeouts and no walks.  Buchholz’s ERA is 6.97 which is a long way from 2013’s career low of 1.74.  Buchholz was 12 – 1 in 16 starts in 2013. 

In 2013, Buchholz faced the White Sox once and they had no answer for him.  He won that start by giving up just 1 run and 5 hits in 7 innings. But he walked 3 while striking out 4. Chicago’s Paul Konerko will be an issue for Buchholz as Konerko owns a career .467 average with 7 hits (including a home run) and 3 RBIs in 15 at-bats.

John Danks is coming off a win in his last start after giving up 3 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings. Danks’ ERA of 4.15 is high but well in range with what has been seen from him in the last few seasons.  In 2013, Danks went 4 – 14 with an ERA of 4.75 in 22 starts. 

Last season, Danks started against the Red Sox once and he lost that meeting after surrendering 6 runs on 11 hits in just 5 innings.  Danks will need to keep an eye on David Ortiz as Ortiz is 5 of 17 with 2 homers and 5 RBIs.
