Monday night, the Boston Red Sox and Jake Peavy will take on the Baltimore Orioles and Bud Norris. Peavy will make his 13th start as Norris makes his 12th.

Jake Peavy took the loss his last time out and that dropped his record to 1 – 3 with an ERA of 4.72.  In that start, he surrendered 5 runs on 8 hits in 6.1 innings as he walked 1 and struck out 3.  In his last 3 starts, Peavy has only walked 3 batters, which was an improvement on the beginning of the season. He only has 4 decisions in 12 starts compared to 2013 when he finished 12- 5 with a 4.17 ERA in 23 starts for the Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox. 

Last season, Peavy didn’t get a decision in his only start against the Orioles and he pitched to a no-decision earlier this season against Baltimore. In that start, he allowed 5 runs on 10 hits (including a homer) in 5.2 innings as he walked 4 and struck out 8. 

Bud Norris comes into this one after suffering a right forearm contusion in his last outing.  He did get the win however and that took his record to 4 - 5 with a 4.41 ERA.  Norris worked 5 innings and allowed 5 runs on 6 hits (including 2 homers) as he walked 2 and struck out 5.   Norris seems on pace to equal or slightly better last year’s results of a 10 – 12 record and a 4.18 ERA in 30 starts and 2 relief appearances for the Orioles and the Houston Astros.

In 2013, Norris was 0 – 1 with a 3.18 ERA in 2 starts against the Red Sox.  This season, he took a loss against Boston after giving up 4 runs on 5 his (including a home run) in 6.1 innings.
