Tuesday night, Brandon Workman gets the call for the Boston Red Sox as they take on Chris Tillman and the Baltimore Orioles. Workman will make his 4th start and 7th appearance while Tillman makes his 14th start.

Brandon Workman is still chasing his first decision of any kind this season to go with his 3.47 ERA.   In his last outing, Workman allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings as he walked 2 and struck out 3.  Since joining the starting rotation, Workman has basically averaged 5 innings of work in each of his 3 starts. Last season, Workman made just 3 starts with 17 relief appearances as he compiled a record of 6 – 3 with a 4.97 ERA.

In 2013, Workman made 3 relief appearances against the Orioles and allowed just 2 hits in 3.1 innings while walking 3 and striking out 4.  This season, he made his first appearance of the year against the Orioles and gave up a hit in 2/3of an inning.

Chris Tillman pitched to a no-decision in his last outing and that left his record at 5 – 2 with a 5.20 ERA.  Tillman was lucky to escape the loss after giving up 5 runs on 6 hits (including a homer) in just an inning of work.   He walked 3 and struck out 1.  The rough outing could have been attributed to the fact that he had to pitch on short rest. Without much consistency this season, it will be tough for Tillman to match 2013 when he went 16 – 7 with an ERA of 3.71.

Last season, Tillman was 3 – 1 with a 2.65 ERA in 6 starts against the Red Sox. Already this season, Tillman has pitched to a no-decision and a win against Boston.
