Saturday night, the Boston Red Sox will give the ball to Rubby De La Rosa (4 – 7, 4.31 ERA) as they do battle against the Baltimore Orioles and Chris Tillman (12 – 5, 3.29 ERA). It will be the 18th start for De La Rosa and the 33rd for Tillman. 

Ruby De La Rosa was roughed up in his last start as he took the loss.  In just 4 innings of work, De La Rosa was charged with 5 runs and 6 hits. He struck out 2 without issuing any walks.  It was another tough outing for De La Rosa, who hasn’t won a game since mid-August.  He is just 1 - 5 in his last 10 starts. Last season, De La Rosa made 11 relief appearances as he compiled an 0 – 2 record and an ERA of 5.56.

In 2013, De La Rosa took the loss in his only appearance against the Orioles.  Earlier this year, he took another loss against Baltimore after allowing 4 runs and 7 hits (including a homer) through 5.2 innings. 

Chris Tillman turned in a decent performance in his last outing but he still didn’t get the decision.  Tillman gave up just a run (on a solo homer) and 5 hits in 6.2 innings of work. He struck out 6 batters while walking just 1.  Tillman has been on fire as of late, allowing over 2 runs just twice in his last 10 outings.  He is 5 - 0 in that span of time and could have easily earned a few more victories had he received timelier hitting from his offense.  Last season, he went 16 – 7 with a 3.71 ERA in 33 starts.

In 2013, Tillman was 3 – 1 with a 2.65 ERA in 6 starts against the Red Sox.  This season, he is 2 -1 in 4 starts against Boston.
