Friday night, the Boston Red Sox will give the ball to Allen Webster (4 – 3, 6.02 ERA) as they square off against the Baltimore Orioles and Kevin Gausman (7 – 7, 3.57 ERA).  Webster will be making his 10th start and Gausman will be making his 19th start.

Allen Webster turned in a solid performance in his last outing and earned the victory.  In 6 innings of work, Webster allowed 2 runs on 4 hits (including a home run).  He struck out 2 and walked 1. Webster hadn’t earned a victory in nearly a month’s time after having some struggles on the mound.  But he is 4 -3 in his last 10 outings. In 2013, Webster was 1 - 2 with an 8.60 ERA in 7 starts and a relief appearance.

 Webster pitched to a no-decision in his only start against the Orioles last season after pitching 3 innings of scoreless ball.  None of the 7 current Orioles that have faced Webster have a hit off of him.

Kevin Gausman pitched to his 2nd straight no-decision in his last start.  Gausman should have gotten the win after pitching 7 innings of shutout ball and allowing just 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7.  But Gausman didn’t get the run support at the right time.  He has been up and down as of late and will bring a 3 -4 record in his last 10 outings into his next start.  Last season, Gausman started 5 games and made 15 relief appearances en route to a 3 -5 record and a 5.66 ERA. 

In 2013, Gausman was 1 – 0 with a 1.86 ERA in a start and 3 relief appearances against the Red Sox. He pitched to a no-decision against the Red Sox after holding them to a run on 4 hits in 5.1 innings.
