Baltimore Orioles - Gausman, K (2-1) vs. Tampa Bay Rays - Cobb, A (2-4)

Wednesday afternoon, the Baltimore Orioles will give the ball to Kevin Gausman as they face the Tampa Bay Rays and Alex Cobb.  Gausman will make his 4th start as Cobb makes his 9th.

Kevin Gausman picked up the win in his last outing and that gave him a 2 – 1 record with a 3.71 ERA.  In that start, Gausman allowed just a run on 5 hits in 6 innings as he walked 3 and struck out 3.  In his limited work this season, Gausman has given the Rays some solid innings.  Last season, Gausman was 3 – 5 with a 5.66 ERA in 5 starts and 15 relief appearances.

During his rookie campaign, Gausman was 0 – 1 with a 13.50 ERA in a start and a relief appearance against the Rays. Tampa Bay’s Ben Zobrist seems to have Gausman’s number as he is 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs against the young right-hander.

Alex Cobb improved his record to 2 – 4 with a 3.99 ERA after getting the win in his last start. In that outing, Cobb gave up a run (on a solo homer) and 3 hits with 2 walks and 11 strikeouts.  It was one of Cobb’s best outings of the season as he ended a 3 game slide.  He will have to work hard to come close to last year’s results when he went 11- 3 with a 2.76 ERA in 22 starts.

In 2013, Cobb won both of his starts against the Orioles with a 1.26 ERA.  The Orioles’ are batting just .208 against Cobb with 16 hits, a homer and 7 RBIs.
