Wednesday evening, the Baltimore Orioles and Chris Tillman will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates and Wandy Rodriguez. Tillman will be making his 10th start as Rodriguez makes his 6th.

Chris Tillman took his record to 4 – 2 and lowered his ERA to 3.34 after pitching a complete game shutout in his last start.  In that outing, Tillman allowed just 5 hits and a walk while striking out 3.   Tillman had just 1 complete game last season as he put together a record of 16 – 7 with an ERA of 3.71 in 33 starts. 

In 2013, Tillman didn’t face the Pirates but he has started against Pittsburgh this season.  Earlier this month, Tillman pitched to a no decision after allowing 3 runs on 6 hits in 4.2 innings of work. 

Wandy Rodriguez pitched to his third straight no decision in his last start.  The lack of a decision left his record at 0 – 2 as he lowered his ERA to 6.84.  In the start, Rodriguez gave up 2 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings as he walked 1 and struck out 4.   Rodriguez has been dealing with some knee issues but it doesn’t seem to affect his play.  In 2013, Rodriguez went 6 - 4 with a 3.59 ERA in 12 starts.

In 2013, Rodriguez didn’t face the Orioles and he has only seen 5 of the Baltimore hitters in his career.   Baltimore’s J.J. Hardy has the most at-bats against Rodriguez and he is batting .261 with 2 homers and 3 RBIs in 23 at-bats.
