The Baltimore Orioles will give Chris Tillman the start on Friday night when they face Oakland Athletics All-Star right-hander Jeff Samardzija.

Right-hander Chris Tillman lost for the fifth time this season when he was defeated by the New York Yankees at home last week. He pitched 6.2 innings in that start and gave up three runs on seven hits while walking three batters and striking out four. Tillman currently has a 7-5 record with a 4.11 ERA on the year and has given up just 12 home runs in 118.1 innings of work.

A's infielder Jed Lowrie has two hits in fie at-bats versus Tillman with a double, three walks and an RBI. Veteran outfielder Coco Crisp is hitless against the right-hander with no walks and no strikeouts.

Jeff Samardzija made his second start of the season as an Athletic and was unlucky to take the loss against the Seattle Mariners. He went eight innings in that game and gave up three runs on five hits while striking out five batters and walking no one. Through 19 starts, Samardzija is now 3-8, but he has an excellent 2.78 ERA and has only given up 108 hits in 123 innings.

Catcher Nick Hundley has gone up against Samardzija more than any of the other Orioles, but he is just 1-for-7 against him with four strikeouts. Steve Pearce is 1-for-5 versus Samardzija with two strikeouts.
