Friday night, the Baltimore Orioles and Ubaldo Jimenez will take on the New York Yankees and Hiroki Kuroda. It will be the 15th start of the year for both pitchers.

Ubaldo Jimenez dropped his 2nd straight game the last time out and that sent his record down to 2 – 8 with a 4.86 ERA. The start was not that bad as he gave up 2 runs on 3 hits (including a homer) while walking 5 and striking out 2.  The 5 walks were bad enough and the fact that his offense was shutout made things worse.  Jimenez probably won’t even get close to last season’s 13 – 9 record and 3.30 ERA in 32 starts.

In 2013, Jimenez lost his only start against the Yankees after allowing 7 runs on 7 hits (including 2 homers) in just 4.1 innings.  This season, he took a loss against New York after giving up 4 runs on 8 hits in 5.2 innings.

Hiroki Kuroda comes into this one after losing his 2nd straight game.  That loss dropped his record to 4 - 5 with a 4.32 ERA. In that start, Kuroda surrendered 4 runs and 5 hits in 4.2 innings.  He walked 3 while striking out 3. Kuroda is starting to look like the pitcher that collapsed in the 2nd half of the 2013 season en route to an 11 -13 record and a 3.31 ERA in 32 starts.

Last season, Kuroda was 1 – 2 with a 3.38 ERA in 4 starts against the Orioles. This season, he picked up a win over Baltimore after giving up 2 runs on 8 hits in 6.1 innings.
