Monday night, the Baltimore Orioles will give the ball to Wei-Yin Chen (16 – 4, 3.58 ERA) as they square off against the New York Yankees and Michael Pineda (3 - 5, 2.15 ERA).  Chen makes his 30th start as Pineda makes his 12th.

Wei-Yin Chen racked up another victory in his last outing.  In 5.2 innings of work, he gave up 2 runs on 9 hits while walking a batter and striking out 6.  Chen has virtually been money in the bank for the orioles every time he has taken the mound this season.  He hasn’t lost a game since early August and is 6 - 1 in his last 10 outings.  Last season, he posted a record of 7 – 7 with a 4.07 ERA in 23 starts.

In 2013, Chen was 0 – 1 with a 6.06 ERA in 3 starts against the Yankees.  Earlier this season, he beat the Yankees despite allowing 4 runs and 9 hits (including a home run) in 5 innings of work.

Michael Pineda took the loss his last time out despite a relatively decent start.  Pineda gave up 2 runs on 4 hits through 5.1 innings.   He walked 2 batters and struck out 5.  Thanks to injuries and a suspension, this has basically been a lost season for Pineda.  He is 3 - 4 in his last 10 outings.  He spent most of the 2013 season in the minors after recovering from shoulder surgery.

Pineda faced the Orioles back in mid-August and pitched to a no-decision after allowing a run on 2 hits in 5 innings of work.
