Tuesday night, Wei-Yin Chen and the Baltimore Orioles will face Matt Garza and the Milwaukee Brewers. Chen will be making his 10th start as Garza makes his 11th.

Wei-Yin Chen brings a record of 5 – 2 with an ERA of 4.08 into this one and was fortunate to escape with a no-decision in his last start after allowing 5 runs on 8 hits (including a home run)in 6.2 innings of work.  He didn’t issue any walks and struck out just 1.   His numbers have him on pace to better last year’s results when he was 7 – 7 with an ERA of 4.07 in 23 starts.

In 2013, Chen didn’t face the Brewers and he has only see 2 of the Milwaukee hitters in his career.  Lyle Overbay is 1 of 2 against Chen and Mark Reynolds is 1 of 4 with a homer and 2 RBIS.

Matt Garza pitched to a no-decision in his last outing and that held his record at 2 – 4 as his ERA rose slightly to 4.92.  Garza surrendered 4 runs on 5 hits (including a home run) in 6.1 innings of work in that start as he walked 3 batters while striking out just 1.  Garza still has time to match or better 2013’s results when he went 10 – 6 with a 3.82 ERA in 24 starts for the Texas Rangers and the Chicago Cubs. 

Last season, Garza didn’t face the Orioles but he has seen many of the batters in their lineup.  And he will have to watch out for Baltimore’s Adam Jones.  Jones is batting .381 with 2 home runs and 3 RBIs against the right-hander.
