Right-hander Miguel Gonzalez is going to make his first postseason start of the season for the Baltimore Orioles when they take on Jason Vargas and the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.

This was Miguel Gonzalez's third year in the majors and it ended up being his best. In 26 starts, he went 10-9 for the Orioles with a 3.23 ERA. He struck out 6.3 batters per nine innings while walking 2.9 batters per nine innings.

Gonzalez made one start against the Royals this season and lost after giving up four runs (three earned) in six innings of work. Outfielder Alex Gordon has a triple against Gonzalez in his career, but that is his only hit against him in eight at-bats. Catcher Salvador Perez is 4-for-9 against the right-hander with a home run and two RBI.

Jason Vargas made the first postseason season start of his career against the Los Angeles in Game 1 of the ALDS and ended up with a no decision. In that outing, he went six innings and gave up two runs on three hits while walking one batter and striking out two.

Vargas didn't face the Orioles during the regular season this year. O's slugger Nelson Cruz has 10 hits in 30 at-bats against the lefty in his career with two doubles, four home runs and eight RBI. Adam Jones is just 5-for-27 against him with four strikeouts.
