Friday evening, Chris Tillman will take the hill for the Baltimore Orioles as they face John Lackey and the Boston Red Sox.  Tillman makes his 4th start of the season as Lackey makes his 3rd.

Chris Tillman is 1 – 1 with an ERA of 0.84 after three decent starts this year.  In his last outing, Tillman took the loss despite going 8 innings and surrendering just 2 runs on 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 6.  Two runs are not that bad unless your team scores nothing and that’s how he got the loss.  Last season, Tillman was a respectable 16 – 7 with an ERA of 3.71 in 33 starts.

John Lackey will look to forget his last start as he comes into this game.  In that outing, Lackey took the loss after giving up 6 runs on 10 hits including 4 home runs.  He didn’t walk anyone and struck out 6.  Four home runs in any game are tough for any pitcher and he could end up allowing some more against the Orioles.

Last season in 4 starts against the Orioles, Lackey was 2 – 1 with a 3.34 ERA.  More importantly, he gave up 6 homers to the Orioles in those 4 games.   Many of the hitters on the Baltimore roster have gone deep against Lackey.  The Orioles’ Chris Davis has 2 home runs and 6 RBIs to go with his .344 average against Lackey.
