Monday night, Mike Minor (6 -9, 4.65 ERA) gets the call for the Atlanta Braves as they face Doug Fister (12 – 6, 2.66 ERA) and the Washington Nationals.  Minor makes his 23rd start as Fister makes his 22nd.

Mike Minor took what was basically a hard luck loss in his last outing.  Minor gave up 3 runs and 7 hits (including a homer) in 7.1 innings.  He walked 2 and struck out 5.  But his offense couldn’t get on the board and Minor’s solid outing was wasted.   Minor hasn’t had that many great outings in recent weeks and is just 4 -4 in his last 10 starts.  Last season, Minor posted a record of 13 – 9 with a 3.21 ERA in 32 starts. 

In 2013, Minor was didn’t record a decision in any of his 3 starts against the Nationals.  Earlier this season, he pitched to another no-decision against Washington after allowing 2 runs and 7 hits (including a homer) in 7 innings.

Doug Fister dropped his 3rd straight game in his last start.  In just 5 innings of work, Fister gave up 4 runs and 10 hits (including a home run).  He walked 2 batters and struck out 2.  Fister has struggled in his recent starts but his is 5 – 4 in his last 10 outings.  In 2013, Fister compiled a record of 14 – 9 with a 3.67 ERA in 32 starts and a relief appearance for the Detroit Tigers.

Fister beat the Braves in his only start against them last year after holding Atlanta to 3 runs and 6 hits through 7 innings.  He beat Atlanta earlier this season behind 8 scoreless innings of 5 hit ball.
