Saturday afternoon, the Atlanta Braves will give the ball to Julio Teheran (13 -11, 3.00 ERA) as they square off against the Texas Rangers and Scott Baker (3 – 4, 5.52 ERA).  Teheran will make his 31st start as Baker makes his 8th start and 25th appearance.

Julio Teheran dropped his 2nd straight game in his last start.  In defeat, Teheran allowed 4 runs and 8 hits in 5.1 innings.  He struck out 5 without walking a single batter.  Teheran has been streaky in the last few weeks as he has followed winning streaks with losing streaks.  He is 4 - 5 in his last 10 outings.  Last season, Teheran went 14 – 8 with a 3.20 ERA in 30 starts.

Teheran didn’t face the Rangers last season and he has only seen 2 of the Texas hitters before.   J.P.  Arencibia is 1 for 2 against Teheran while Shin-Soo Choo is 2 for 3 with a homer and an RBI.

Scott Baker saw his 3 game win streak end in his last outing after he took the loss.  In that start, Baker was torched for 5 runs and 4 hits (including 3 homers) in just 4.1 innings of work.  He walked a batter and struck out 3.  Baker had been on a roll as he adjusted to being in the starting rotation instead of the bullpen.  But he is 3 -1 in his last 4 appearances and 3 - 2 in his last 10 appearances overall.  In 2013, Baker was 0 – 0 with a 3.60 ERA in 3 starts for the Chicago Cubs.

Baker was lit up in his only start against Atlanta last season.  He escaped with a no-decision despite allowing 5 runs on 4 hits (including 2 homers) in 4 innings.  But the current Atlanta roster is batting just .175 as a team against Baker with 7 hits, 2 homers and 6 RBI in 40 at-bats.
