On Wednesday night, left-hander Alex Wood (9-9) will be going for his third consecutive win for the Atlanta Braves when they go up against Gerrit Cole (7-4) and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Last Friday, Alex Wood had a good start against the Oakland Athletics and came away with the win. He went six innings in that outing and allowed two runs on four base hits while walking three batters and striking out one. Wood has a solid 3.07 ERA for the Braves this season and he has struck out 120 batters in 123 innings.

Pirated veteran Gaby Sanchez has a single in his only plate appearance against Wood. The rest of the Pirates who have faced the left-hander are a combined 0-for-6 against him with a walk and four strikeouts.

Second-year starter Gerrit Cole last pitched for the Pirates back on July 4, when he was able to pick up the win against the Philadelphia Phillies. Since then, Cole has been on the disabled list with a lat injury. On the season, Cole has struck out 78 batters in 85.2 innings of work and he currently owns a 3.78 ERA.

Braves infielder Emilio Bonifacio has no hits in his two at-bats against Cole with a walk and no strikeouts. All of the other Braves will be going up against the young right-hander for the first time on Wednesday night.
