On Opening Day, Julio Teheran and the Atlanta Braves will head out to Milwaukee to take on Yovani Gallardo and the Brewers. Teheran started to look like the elite pitcher that all Braves fans expected him to be in the 2013 season. He pitched 185 innings for Atlanta and kept his ERA pretty low at 3.20. He seemed to take some of the mustard off of his fastball to lower his walk totals, but he was still able to strike out over eight hitters per nine innings pitched.
The young Teheran doesn't have much experience against the Brewers' hitters, but one guy he will probably worry about facing is their young shortstop Jean Segura. Segura has only faced Teheran three times in his career, but he got a hit in all three of those plate appearances, including one home run.
Yovani Gallardo is back as the Brewers' ace this year despite having the worst season of his career in 2013. He pitched less innings (180.2) than he has since he became a full-time starter for Milwaukee and his ERA (4.18) and K/9 rate (7.17) were the worst totals of his career. He will definitely be looking to have a bounce-back campaign in 2014.
Some of the Braves have seen Gallardo plenty of times. Dan Uggla has faced the righty 19 times, but he has only been able to get four hits. The lone Braves player who has a home run against Gallardo in his career is Jason Heyward.
