On Wednesday night, young left-hander Alex Wood will make his first Major league start for the Atlanta Braves since June 8 when he takes on Collin McHugh and the Houston Astros.

Alex Wood last made a start back on May 4 for the Braves and has since been coming out of the bullpen for them. In his last start, he went five innings against the San Francisco Giants and ended up losing despite only giving up two runs in five innings of work. On the year, Wood has a 3.43 ERA through 60.1 innings and has only received 1.89 runs per nine innings from his offense.

Dexter Fowler and Jesus Guzman are the only players on the Astros who have had at-bats against Wood in their careers and they are a combined 0-for-3 against him with one walk and no strikeouts.

27-year-old Collin McHugh made his 11th start of the season last Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays and he ended up picking up his fifth loss of the year. He pitched six innings in that game and allowed just two unearned runs on four hits while striking out six and walking three. He has a 4-5 record this year, but he also has a very good 2.76 ERA to go along with it.

Braves shortstop Andrelton is one of only two Atlanta players who have faced Simmons McHugh and he is 1-for-1 against him with a triple and an RBI.
