Thursday afternoon, the Atlanta Braves will take the field behind Mike Minor as they face the Houston Astros and Jarred Cosart.  Minor makes his 11th start as Cosart makes his 16th.

Mike Minor pitched to his 3rd straight no-decision his last time out and that held his record at 2 – 4 with a 4.20 ERA.  Minor had a decent start though as he surrendered just 2 runs on 7 hits (including a homer) in 7 innings of work.  He walked 2 while striking out 11.  But the bullpen blew the lead and the potential win for Minor.  It will be tough for Minor to match last season’s effort when he posted a record of 13 – 9 with a 3.21 ERA in 32 starts.

In 2013, Minor didn’t face the Astros and he has only opposed four of their hitters in the past.  Only two of those hitters have made contact against Minor and the 4 combined are batting .263 with 5 hits in 19 at-bats.

Jarred Cosart picked up his 3rd straight victory in his last outing to take his record to 7 – 5 with a 3.78 ERA.  In that outing, Cosart hurled 8 scoreless innings and allowed 6 hits and a walk while striking out 2.  He’s 3- 1 with a 2.93 ERA in the month of June and he has already posted better numbers than last season when he was 1 – 1 with a 1.95 ERA in 10 starts.

In 2013, Cosart didn’t face the Braves and he has only seen one of Atlanta’s hitters before. But Ryan Doumit is 0 for 3 against the young right-hander.
