Thursday afternoon, Ervin Santana takes the hill for the Atlanta Braves as they face Jhoulys Chacin and the Colorado Rockies.  Santana will make his 12th start and Chacin will make his 8th.

Ervin Santana missed getting the decision in his last start despite a 7 inning effort where he surrendered just a run on 6 hits with 2 walks and a strikeout.  The lack of s decision held Santana’s record at 5 – 2 while his ERA dipped to 3.69.  Santana is already on pace to post better numbers this season than he did last season when he went 9 – 10 with a 3.24 ERA in 32 starts for the Kansas City Royals. 

In 2013, Santana didn’t face the Rockies but he has some experience against a few of the Colorado hitters. Justin Morneau is just batting .231 against Santana but he has 3 homers and 9 RBIs against the veteran right-hander.

Jhoulys Chacin is still seeking his first victory of the season after pitching to a 2nd straight no-decision in his last outing.  Chacon’s record is still at 0 - 4 with a 5.35 ERA.  He threw 6 innings in his last start and gave up 3 runs on 6 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. It looks like a long shot for Chacin to even come close to his numbers from 2013 when he went 14 – 10 with a 3.47 ERA in 31 starts.

In 2013, Chacin didn’t face the Braves but he has seen some of their hitters before. The 7 Braves that have faced Chacin in the past are batting a collective .277 with 13 hits, 3 home runs and 5 RBIs in 47 at-bats.
