Wednesday night, Gavin Floyd will take the hill for the Atlanta Braves as they square off against John Lackey and the Boston Red Sox.  Floyd will be making his 5th start as Lackey makes his 11th.

Gavin Floyd pitched to his 2nd straight no decision in his last start and he has yet to get a win as his record stands at 0 – 1 with an ERA of 2.49.  In that last outing, Floyd gave up 2 runs on 7 hits (including a homer) in 6.2 innings as he struck out 7 without issuing a walk.  Floyd still looks good considering the fact that he is coming back off of Tommy John surgery.  In 2013, Floyd made just 5 starts for the Chicago White Sox and compiled a record of 0 - 4 with a 5.18 ERA.

Last season, Floyd didn’t get to face the Red Sox and he only has experience against 7 of Boston’s hitters. David Ortiz could be an issue for Floyd as Ortiz is batting .320 with 3 homers and 3 RBIs.

John Lackey pitched to a no-decision in his last start and that held his record at 5 – 3 with a 4.01 ERA.  Lackey was solid in his last outing as he pitched 7 scoreless innings and surrendered only 5 hits and a walk while striking out 3.  Lackey is pitching a lot better than last season when he went 10 – 13 with a 3.52 ERA in 29 starts.

In 2013, Lackey didn’t pitch against the Braves and he has only faced 5 of their hitters in his career.  B.J. Upton has the best results with a .207 average and 2 homers and 5 RBIs.
