Tuesday night, the Arizona Diamondbacks will give the ball to Chase Anderson (7 – 4, 3.16 ERA) as they square off against the Washington Nationals and Stephen Strasburg (9 – 10, 3.53 ERA).  Anderson makes his 16th start as Strasburg makes his 27th. 

Chase Anderson pitched to his 4th no-decision in 5 starts in his last outing.  Anderson threw 6 innings and allowed 3 runs and 9 hits while walking 2 and striking out 5.   The 3 runs were the most that Anderson had allowed in over a month but his quality starts aren’t leading to wins. In his last 10 starts, Anderson is just 2 – 4.  Prior to getting the call, Anderson was 4 – 2 with a 0.69 ERA at the Diamondback’s Double-A affiliate.

Anderson lacks experience against most of the Washington roster but he has faced one of the Nationals before.  Asdrubal Cabrera is 0 for 2 with an RBI against Anderson.

Stephen Strasburg hurled a solid game in his last outing and it led to a victory.  In the win, Strasburg surrendered just a run on 3 hits as he walked 2 and struck out 8.  Through most of the season, Strasburg has been up and down without any trace of consistency.   He is just 3 - 5 in his last 10 starts although some of them could have led to wins for the right-hander if there was some run support.  Last season, Strasburg was 8 - 9 with a 3.00 ERA in 30 starts.

In 2013, Strasburg was 1 – 0 with a 2.57 ERA in 2 starts against the Diamondbacks. Earlier this season, Strasburg took the loss against Arizona after allowing 3 runs and 8 hits in 7 innings.
