Monday night, the Arizona Diamondbacks will give the ball to Vidal Nuno (2 – 8, 4.92 ERA) as they square off against the Washington Nationals and Jordan Zimmermann (8 – 5, 2.92 ERA).  It will be the 22nd start and 25th appearance for Nuno and the 25th start for Zimmermann. 

Vidal Nuno pitched to a no-decision in his last outing and is still searching for his 1st victory as a Diamondback. The last time out, Nuno gave up 2 runs and 6 hits in 5.2 innings. He struck out 6 without issuing a walk.  Nuno is 0 – 3 in 7 starts for the Arizona and 1 – 5 in his last 10 starts overall.  Last season with the New York Yankees, Nuno went 1 – 2 with a 2.55 ERA in 3 starts and 2 relief appearances.

Nuno didn’t face the Nationals in 2013 and he has only seen two of their hitters before.  Nate McLouth is 1 for 1 with a homer and an RBI (but not expected to play) while Asdrubal Cabrera is 0 for 3.   

Jordan Zimmermann got the victory in his last start behind one of his better outings of the year.  In the win, Zimmermann was charged with a run and 5 hits in 6.1 innings of work.  He fanned 4 without issuing a single free pass.   The last 10 starts haven’t been that productive for Zimmermann as he is just 3 – 2 in those outings. Last season, Zimmermann was 19 - 9 with a 3.25 ERA in 32 starts.

In 2013, Zimmermann held the Diamondbacks to 2 runs and 3 hits through 7 innings as he got the win in his only start against Arizona.  This season he missed getting the decision against Arizona after allowing 5 runs and 10 hits (including a homer) in 5.2 innings.
