Big right-hander Brandon McCarthy will be looking to turn his season around on Wednesday when the Arizona Diamondbacks take on Michael Wacha and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Brandon McCarthy pitched eight very strong innings against the Washington Nationals last week, but it wasn't enough to pick up the win as the Diamondbacks ended up losing the game 5-1. McCarthy allowed just one run on two hits in that game while walking none and striking out seven. He does have a pretty high 5.02 ERA and is just 1-6 on the season, but those numbers should get better if he continues to pitch the way he did against the Nats.

McCarthy has done well against Jhonny Peralta in his career by holding him to just one hit in 21 at-bats. Outfielder Peter Bourjos is 3-for-5 against him with a triple and an RBI.

Michael Wacha picked up his third win of the season in his start against the Chicago Cubs last week by giving up just two runs in seven innings of work. He allowed seven hits in that game and struck out five while walking no one. He is now 3-3 on the season with a very solid 2.82 ERA.

Paul Goldschmidt is 1-for-3 against Wacha with a double, while center fielder A.J. Pollock is the only player on the Diamondbacks who has hit a home run off of him.
