Wednesday night the Arizona Diamondbacks will start Bronson Arroyo as the San Francisco Giants give the ball to Tim Lincecum.  Both of the veteran right-handers will be making their 2nd starts of the season.

Bronson Arroyo had a relatively short night the last time out, going just 4 1/3 innings.  In the outing, he gave up 2 runs on 5 hits (including a home run) while striking out 3 and walking 2.   The back issues that Arroyo had during the spring are said to no longer be a factor but it did prevent him from getting much work during spring training.

Arroyo knows the Giants lineup well and shouldn’t have much trouble with many of the hitters.  Hunter Pence has had Arroyo’s number in the past though. In 42 at-bats, Pence has 14 hits (including 4 doubles and 2 home runs) and 5 RBIS.   But Arroyo has struck out Pence 6 times, so that should be considered too.

Tim Lincecum doesn’t strike fear in the hearts of hitters as much as he used to.  In his first start of the year, he struck out 7 batters but he surrendered 4 runs on 8 hits during 6 innings of work.  Lincecum was reportedly suffering from both a knee bruise and a slight case of food poisoning.    

This will be Lincecum’s second start against the Diamondbacks in as many weeks.  He was touched up last week and will still be looking out for Paul Goldschmidt.  Goldschmidt is batting a scorching .522 against Lincecum with 12 hits (including 6 home runs) and 13 RBIs in 23 at-bats.
