Thursday night the Arizona Diamondbacks will give the ball to Randall Delgado as they face the San Francisco Giants and Ryan Vogelsong.  It will be the 3rd game and 2nd start for Delgado and the 2nd start for Vogelsong. 

Randall Delgado hasn’t fared well in his two appearances this season.  In his only start, his day ended after 4 innings where he gave up 6 runs on 10 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks.  Including his 0.2 innings of relief, his ERA is 11.57.   Last season he started 19 games with an additional appearance out of the bullpen, compiling a record of 5 – 7 and an ERA of 4.26.  If he doesn’t improve on his first start of this season, he might not see too many more.

In 2013 he started 2 games against the Giants and went 1- 1, allowing just 1 run on 6 hits, earning an ERA of 0.71.  He has shutdown the Giants in his career, allowing just 8 hits and 2 runs in 49 at-bats.

Ryan Vogelsong is also looking to forget his early experience this season.  He got a no decision after a 4 inning outing where he gave up 4 runs on 7 hits (including 2 home runs) with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks.   A no decision was the best that he could hope for after that performance.  

Last season, Vogelsong had 3 starts against Arizona with a 0 - 1 record and a 5.60 ERA.  In those 3 games, Vogelsong gave up 11 runs (all earned) on 24 hits in 17.2 innings.  San Francisco’s Aaron Hill is batting .563 with 9 hits (including a home run) in 16 at-bats.
