Thursday afternoon, the Arizona Diamondbacks will give the ball to Randall Delgado (3 - 3, 5.40 ERA) as they take on the San Francisco Giants and Jake Peavy (5 – 13, 4.01 ERA).  Delgado will make his 4th start and 42nd appearance as Peavy makes his 29th start.

Randall Delgado looked sharp in his last outing and his efforts earned him the victory.  Delgado threw 5 innings of scoreless ball and surrendered just 2 hits.  He struck out 2 without issuing a single walk.  Delgado has spent most of the season in the bullpen and hasn’t started a game since mid-April.   He is 2 -1 in his last 10 appearances.  Last season, Delgado started 19 games and made 1 relief appearance en route to a 5 – 7 record and a 4.26 ERA. 

In 2013, Delgado was 1 – 1 with an 0.71 ERA in 2 starts against the Giants.  This season, he is 0 – 0 in a start and 3 relief appearances against San Francisco. 

Jake Peavy got his 2nd straight win the last time out.  In 6 innings of work, Peavy allowed 2 runs on 6 hits.  He struck out 3 without issuing any walks.  Peavey has been pretty good in his 8 starts for the Giants since coming over from the Boston Red Sox.  He is 4 - 4 in those 8 starts and 4 - 6 in his last 10.  In 2013, Peavy was 12 – 5 with a 4.17 ERA in 23 starts for the Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox.

Last season, Peavy won his only start against the Diamondbacks after holding them to 2 runs and 4 hits (including a homer) in 7 innings.  Arizona is batting .235 against Peavy with 12 hits, 3 homers and 7 RBIs in 51 at-bats.
