Brandon McCarthy was finally able to pick up his second win of the year last week and will look to carry that momentum into his next start when he and the Arizona Diamondbacks face Vance Worley and the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday night.

Brandon McCarthy picked up his second win by beating the San Diego Padres on the road on Sunday. He pitched seven strong innings in that game and allowed just one run on six hits while striking out seven batters and walking zero. McCarthy does have a 2-10 record and a below-average 5.11 ERA, but he has also received just 2.60 runs per nine innings from his offense this season.

Pirates young outfielder Starling Marte has four hits in seven plate appearances against McCarthy in his career with a double and two RBI. Catcher Russell Martin has just one hit in nine at-bats against him with four strikeouts.

Vance Worley won his second game in a row last Saturday over the New York Mets by giving up just one earned run in seven innings of work. He allowed seven hits in that start and walked two batters while striking out three. Through three starts, Worley is 2-0 with a 1.74 ERA and he has only walked three hitters in 20.2 innings.

Nick Evans has two hits in his five at-bats versus Worley with a double and two strikeouts. Martin Prado is just 2-for-8 against him in his career with two walks.
