Friday night, Chase Anderson will take the mound for the Arizona Diamondbacks as they face Bartolo Colon and the New York Mets.  It will be Anderson’s 3rd start and Colon’s 10th. 

Chase Anderson has done well in the big leagues since getting called up on May 6th.  He has won both of his starts with an ERA of 5.06 even though his last outing was rocky. His offense bailed him out after he allowed 5 runs on 7 hits (including 2 home runs) in 5.1 innings of work.   Anderson walked 2 and struck out 2.  It was a big difference from his debut when he allowed just a run (on a solo homer) on 2 hits in 5.1 innings with a walk and 6 strikeouts.

The rookie right-hander will have to study the scouting report hard and settle down if he wants to be successful in this next start.

Bartolo Colon continues to defy the calendar by turning in solid starts.  He improved his record to 3 - 5 with an ERA of 5.34 after his last start.  In that outing, the soon to be 41 year old went 8 innings and surrendered just 2 runs on 5 hits (including a homer) with a walk and 5 strikeouts.  In 2013, Colon was an impressive 18 – 6 with an ERA of 2.65 in 30 starts for the Oakland A’s. 

Last season Colon didn’t face the Diamondbacks and in his long career, he has only faced 5 of their current hitters.  Overall, the 5 hitters are only batting .225 against Colon with 2 homers and 7 RBIs in 71 at-bats.
