Wednesday afternoon, Vidal Nuno (2 -11, 4.60 ERA) and the Arizona Diamondbacks will face Phil Hughes (15 -10, 3.61 ERA) and the Minnesota Twins.  Nuno will make his 28th start and 31st appearance as Hughes makes his 32nd start.  

Vidal Nuno wasn’t that bad in his last start but still didn’t get the decision.  In 5.1 innings of work, Nuno gave up 3 runs on 8 hits (including a home run) as he walked a batter and struck out 7. It seems like no matter how Nuno pitches, he can’t seem to find a victory.  He hasn’t won a game since he joined the Diamondbacks in July and is 0 – 5 in his last 10 appearances.  Last season with the New York Yankees, Nuno posted a record of 1 – 2 with a 2.25 ERA in 3 starts and 2 relief appearances.

Nuno didn’t face the Twins in 2013 but he had a start against them earlier in the season while a member of the Yankees.  Nuno lost that start in May after allowing 4 runs and 7 hits (including 3 homers) in 6.2 innings.

Phil Hughes missed getting the decision in his last start after allowing 4 runs and 10 hits (including a home run) in 7 innings of work.  He struck out five batters without issuing a single walk.  The last few starts have been rough for Hughes but he still owns a 5 - 3 record in his last 10 starts.  In 2013, Hughes made 29 starts and a relief appearance for the New York Yankees en route to a 4 - 14 record and a 5.19 ERA. 

Hughes pitched to a no-decision in his only start against the Diamondbacks in 2013.  Arizona is batting .269 against Hughes with 18 hits, 4 home runs and 11 RBIs in 67 at-bats.
