Thursday night, Chase Anderson (7 – 4, 3.06 ERA) gets the call for the Arizona Diamondbacks as they take on Henderson Alvarez (8 – 5, 2.48 ERA) and the Miami Marlins.  Anderson makes his 15th start as Alvarez makes his 23rd.

Chase Anderson picked up the victory in his last start behind a 6 inning effort where he allowed a run (on a solo home run) and 4 hits while walking a batter and striking out 6.  Anderson hadn’t factored into the decision in his previous 3 starts despite allowing just 4 runs in those starts.  After cooling down from a quick start, Anderson might be perking up for the final stretch of the season.  Prior to getting the call in May, Anderson was 4 – 2 with a 0.69 ERA in 6 starts at Double-A.

Anderson had a start against the Marlins a little over a month ago and he got the win after holding Miami to a run on 7 hits in 6 innings of work.

Henderson Alvarez will make his return from the 15 Day Disabled List to make this start following inflammation in his right shoulder.  His last start was in late July and he got his 2nd straight victory in that one after holding the opposition scoreless over 7 innings.  Alvarez allowed just 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4.  In his last 10 starts, Alvarez is 5 - 2.  Last season, Alvarez posted a record of 5 – 6 with a 3.59 ERA in 17 starts.

Alvarez didn’t face Arizona last season and he has only seen 5 of the Diamondbacks before.  Arizona’s Cody Ross is 3 for 10 against Alvarez with 2 doubles.
