Saturday afternoon, the Arizona Diamondbacks will take the field behind Trevor Cahill (3-11-1, 5.38 ERA ) as they square off against the Colorado Rockies and Eddie Butler (0 -1, 10.13 ERA).  Cahill makes his 16th start and 31st appearance as Butler makes his 2nd start.

Trevor Cahill had a rough go of it his last time out but he escaped with a no-decision.  In just 4 innings of work, Cahill gave up 4 runs on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out 7. It was just the latest short outing for Cahill as he hasn’t pitched over 6 innings in a month.  He is only 2 -5 in his last 10 appearances.  Last season, Cahill started 25 games and made a relief appearance en route to an 8 – 10 record and a 3.99 ERA. 

In 2013, Cahill was 2 -2 with a 3.42 ERA in 4 starts against the Rockies.  This season, he is 1 - 0 in 4 appearances against Colorado.

Eddie Butler took the loss after getting lit up in his Major League debut back in June.  Butler allowed 6 runs and 10 hits through 5.1 innings as he walked 3 and struck out 2.  He was sent back down to the Minors after that to let his injured shoulder heal and to work on his mechanics. He will make his return to the big leagues for this start.  At his last stop, Triple-A Tulsa, Butler was 6 -9 with a 3.59 ERA in 18 starts.

Butler has never faced the Diamondbacks but with the help of a good scouting report, he might have a chance.
