Free College Basketball Picks: Texas at North Carolina Odds
by George Monroy - 12/17/2013
The No. 14 North Carolina Tar Heels might be getting the Rodney Dangerfield treatment-they get no respect. The team has already beaten three Top-12 teams, including the Louisville Cardinals, Michigan State Spartans and the Kentucky Wildcats. And to top it all off, North Carolina still has to face the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday night. If the Tar Heels can come away with another huge victory, it's almost certain that they will crack the Top 10 in next week's rankings. Read More >>
Free NHL Picks: Penguins at Rangers Odds
by George Monroy - 12/17/2013
The Pittsburgh Penguins are simply chugging along through the season, racking up wins and setting themselves up for the playoffs. The team has the most points in the Eastern Conference and has already built a huge gap between its closest division competitor, the Washington Capitals. Sidney Crosby and the Penguins lead the Metropolitan by 10 points and are not planning on relinquishing that lead any time soon. Read More >>
Free NBA Picks: Pelicans at Warriors Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/16/2013
In some ways, it feels almost easy to be an armchair general manager in the NBA. Just pick five guys who can score and throw them out there. Alas, nothing's that easy. That brings me to the New Orleans Pelicans. They have five pretty big-name guys they can roll out there: Anthony Davis, Tyreke Evans, Eric Gordon, Ryan Anderson and Jrue Holiday. I'd want any of them on my team. However, just getting guys who can fill up the bucket doesn't win games. Things like defense, rebounding an intangibles matter. And, of course, there's the injury factor. Read More >>
Free NHL Picks: Jets at Sabres Odds
by George Monroy - 12/16/2013
The Buffalo Sabres are bad-but when I state "bad," what I really mean is historically bad. The team is on pace to earn the fewest points during a season in over 13 years, and it might not even crack the 40-point mark if things do not get better. Buffalo's management has probably already given up on the year and may be looking toward next season, but for the players and coaching staff, things are simply getting embarrassing. Read More >>
College Basketball Predictions: Gardner-Webb at Duke Odds and Picks
by George Monroy - 12/16/2013
The Duke Blue Devils will be back in action after nearly two full weeks off. The team has not played since its huge win over the Michigan Wolverines during the beginning of the month and will now face the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs in a tune-up game before its big matchup against the UCLA Bruins on Thursday night. The Blue Devils are ranked No. 8 in the nation after falling to the Arizona Wildcats, and they have already faced a tough schedule filled with nation's top schools. Read More >>
NHL Predictions: Blues at Senators Odds and Picks
by George Monroy - 12/16/2013
What a different world it must be to a St. Louis Blues fan this season. The team lost three of four games to end November, and to begin December and fans were already wondering aloud "what was wrong with the Blues?". St. Louis dispelled any fears that it might be heading for its first real slump of the year by winning three-games in a row, which included a dominant victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. St. Louis is still on the Chicago Blackhawks' heels for the Central Division lead and is one of the few teams in the entire NHL with 22 wins on the season. Read More >>
Free NBA Picks: Clippers at Wizards Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/13/2013
This rings true in Major League Baseball, the NHL and NBA: It's always wise to bet against a team in its final game of a lengthy road trip. Why? Obviously it's harder to play in front of hostile crowds as it is. Add in the fact the guys are tired -- most road trips are very compacted -- and emotionally spent by the end of the trip. Plus, they can see the light at the end of the tunnel and will be back home soon. It's just human nature to sleepwalk in that finale of a trip. Read More >>
Free College Basketball Picks: Illinois at Oregon Odds
by Dave Schwab - 12/13/2013
The Big Ten's Illinois Fighting Illini will head to the Great Northwest this Saturday night to square off against the Pac-12's Oregon Ducks, who come in ranked No. 15 in the country. Tip-off from the Moda Center is set for 9 p.m. (ET), and the game will be broadcast nationally ESPN2. Read More >>
Free NHL Picks: Canadiens at Islanders Odds
by George Monroy - 12/13/2013
The Montreal Canadiens are right in the Atlantic Division race despite losing back-to-back games against the Los Angeles Kings and Philadelphia Flyers. The Canadiens went on a stretch where they won eight of nine games and rocketed up the Eastern Conference Playoff standings and still firmly sit in the third spot. Read More >>
Free College Basketball Picks: Iowa at Iowa State Odds
by George Monroy - 12/13/2013
The No. 23 Iowa Hawkeyes are about to play perhaps their most contentious game of the season when they face off against the in-state rival and No. 17 Iowa State Cyclones on Friday night. Both teams started out the year at an excellent pace and are leading their respective Big Ten and Big 12 Conferences. The Hawkeyes have already played 10 games this season but have yet to play a ranked team. Read More >>
NFL Predictions: Patriots at Dolphins Week 15 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/12/2013
Off the top of your head, give me a list of the five most important non-quarterbacks in the NFL to their teams. My quick list would be Lions receiver Calvin Johnson, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald, Bengals receiver A.J. Green and Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles. Five very good players. However, I purposefully left out the guy who might be the most important non-QB of all: Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. Read More >>
Free College Football Picks: Army vs. Navy Odds and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 12/12/2013
The last game of the regular season in college football doesn't top the charts in terms of significance or, most often, quality of play. When it comes to pageantry and tradition, though, it's hard to beat the Army-Navy game. The game was first played in 1890, has been played continuously since 1930, and this year will be the 114th meeting. Navy has a 57-49-7 edge in the series, but they have gained their long-term advantage thanks to a current 11-game winning streak - the longest in the history of the series. Read More >>
Free NBA Picks: Lakers at Thunder Odds
by Aaron Smith - 12/12/2013
The Los Angeles Lakers, with Kobe Bryant on the court, will travel to Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder Friday night in a marquee matchup. Bryant missed the Lakers first 19 games before returning for the last two. The Lakers were unable to win either of those games, and they'll have an even tougher matchup Friday night in Oklahoma City. Free College Basketball Picks: Maryland at Boston College Odds
by George Monroy - 12/11/2013
The Maryland Terrapins have already played two Top-25 teams this season and still have matchups against No. 18 North Carolina, No. 8 Duke and No. 2 Syracuse scheduled this year. So far Maryland has not had luck beating any of the top teams, but it has performed well against the smaller schools on its schedule. The Terrapins ended last season with a decent 22-12 regular season record but failed to make the NCAA Tournament and instead had to settle for an NIT berth. The team performed surprisingly well and made it to the semifinals against Iowa. Read More >>
Free NBA Picks: Rockets at Trail Blazers Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/11/2013
If you had told me before the season that when I previewed a Dec. 12 game between Houston and Portland one of those teams would be leading the ultra-deep Western Conference, I would have said "yeah, that wouldn't surprise me." Of course, I would have expected it to be the Rockets and not the Blazers. Read More >>
Free NHL Picks: Blue Jackets at Rangers Odds
by George Monroy - 12/11/2013
The New York Rangers may be letting a golden opportunity to move up in the Eastern Conference Playoff standings slip through their fingers. The team started off a nine-straight home game stretch by getting blown out in its first three matchups, and it has won only one game during its last five attempts. Read More >>
Free NFL Picks: Chargers at Broncos Week 15 Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/10/2013
I'm assuming NFL players don't celebrate when players on other teams get hurt, but I don't think the Broncos are all that heartbroken that the Patriots lost Pro Bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski to a season-ending injury on Sunday. That obviously hugely weakens New England, which is a game behind Denver for the top seed in the AFC but holds the tiebreaker. Gronk's loss makes it more likely that New England loses this week at Miami or next at Baltimore, so Denver is looking good for that top seed. Read More >>
Free NBA Picks: Mavericks at Warriors Odds
by Aaron Smith - 12/10/2013
The Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors have been moving in completely different directions in the last couple years. Dallas has been on the way down after winning an NBA Championship over the Miami Heat in LeBron James' first season in Miami. Golden State has been on the rise as they look more and more like a contender as their young stars mature. Read More >>
Free College Basketball Picks: Bryant at Ohio State Odds
by George Monroy - 12/10/2013
The No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes are on quite a dominant streak to start the season. The team is holding opponents to an average of 54.5 points per game, with eight double-digit wins and two 30-point plus victories under its belt. The only reason the Buckeyes are not ranked higher is because of their relatively easy schedule. Outside of a 17-point victory over the then-No. 17 Marquette Gold Eagles, the team does not own a high-profile win. Read More >>
Free NHL Picks: Kings at Maple Leafs Odds
by George Monroy - 12/10/2013
The Los Angeles Kings may be in a bit of an offensive slump over the last month of the season, but the team isn't worried because its outstanding defensive play and goaltending has made up of for any scoring deficiencies as of late. Los Angeles is allowing opponents to score only two goals per game and has not given up more than two goals in regulation since a 4-3 loss to the Nashville Predators during the beginning of November.
