Lightning at Rangers Picks and NHL Betting Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 2/28/2013
The Lightning have been a minor disappointment to me so far this season as they sit exactly at .500 19 games into the season. They are excelling, though, compared to the Rangers - also at .500 after 18 games. The Rangers were the preseason favorites to win the Stanley Cup after adding Rick Nash to an already deep roster. Now they sit as just the seventh choice at Bovada to hoist the trophy, and at 18/1 they are not among the chief contenders. Read More >>
Virginia Tech at Miami Picks and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 2/27/2013
The Hurricanes should win this one - they are by far the better team. In fact, if it plays out according to form then it shouldn't really be very close. So, why is this game interesting at all? Well, Miami had a chance to run through the ACC undefeated and had surprisingly climbed as high as second in the polls. Read More >>
Hawks at Jazz Picks and NBA Betting Odds
by Dave Schwab - 2/27/2013
The Atlanta Hawks will try and extend their current winning streak to four games this Wednesday night when they face the Utah Jazz at EnergySolutions Arena. This inter-conference matchup is slated to get underway at 9 p.m. (ET), and the game will be available on NBA League Pass. Read More >>
Red Wings at Kings Picks and NHL Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 2/27/2013
The Los Angeles Kings appeared to suffer a bit of a Stanley Cup hangover when this season started despite the fact it began a few months later than normal because of the lockout. However, the Kings now look to be snapping out of things and are starting to resemble their championship selves as they welcome Detroit to the Staples Center for the only time this season on Wednesday night. Florida at Tennessee Picks and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Dave Schwab - 2/26/2013
The Florida Gators will try and move one step closer to wrapping up the SEC regular season title when they face the Tennessee Volunteers this Tuesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena. Tip off for this conference clash is scheduled for 9 p.m. (ET), and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN. Read More >>
Warriors at Pacers Picks and NBA Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 2/26/2013
It's starting to look more and more like the Indiana Pacers are the only realistic threat in the Eastern Conference to the Miami Heat. The Knicks and Bulls are fading, and the Celtics are injury-ravaged. The Nets? The Hawks? Please. Read More >>
Flames at Wild Picks and NHL Betting Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 2/26/2013
This condensed schedule due to the lockout has led to no end of strange quirks of scheduling, and this game is yet another example. This is the third time in 16 days that these teams have met and the second time since Saturday night. Both of the previous games were played in Calgary - a 3-1 win by the Flames on Saturday night, and a 2-1 shootout win by the Wild on the 11th. They don't play again after this until mid-April when they play twice within five days. For the Wild this is the second time in a row they have played Calgary, while the Flames fit in a Sunday night game against Phoenix - a 5-4 win at home - between meetings. Read More >>
Stars at Predators Picks and NHL Betting Odds
by Dave Schwab - 2/25/2013
The Dallas Stars will take a trip to Bridgestone Arena this Monday night for the first meeting this season with the Nashville Predators. This Western Conference clash is scheduled for an 8 p.m. (ET) start, and the game will be broadcast nationally on the NBC Sports Network. Read More >>
Syracuse at Marquette Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Alan Matthews - 2/25/2013
The Big East farewell tour continues on Monday night for Syracuse as the Orange have their final scheduled meeting with Marquette, although it's very possible these two could meet in the Big East semifinals or championship game. Syracuse-Marquette isn't a storied rivalry that is causing talking heads to wax poetic about its end like Saturday's Syracuse-Georgetown matchup, the Hoyas' final trip to the Carrier Dome. That's not to say this game isn't important. Read More >>
Lakers at Nuggets Picks and NBA Betting Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 2/25/2013
Don't look now, but the Lakers are finally playing more like, well, the Lakers. They have won 11 of their last 15. While they still have work to do to earn a playoff berth, it's not nearly as impossible to imagine as it once was. They are coming off a good win yesterday in Dallas and look to stretch their current streak to four wins. Read More >>
Georgetown at Syracuse Picks and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 2/23/2013
It is the end of an era in Syracuse basketball. No. 11 Georgetown visits No. 8 Syracuse at 4 p.m. on Saturday for what will be the final regular season Big East Conference matchup between these rivals in the Carrier Dome. This is one of the best rivalries in all of college sports, and this weekend will be more than a little nostalgic for Orange coaches and fans. Read More >>
Jazz at Clippers Picks and NBA Betting Odds
by Dave Schwab - 2/23/2013
The Utah Jazz will try and extend their current winning streak to four games when they square off against the Los Angeles Clippers this Saturday night at the Staples Center. This Western Conference showdown is set to tip off at 10:30 p.m. (ET), and the game will be available on NBA League Pass. Read More >>
Islanders at Sabres Picks and NHL Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 2/23/2013
The first head coaching casualty of this lockout-shortened NHL season arrived early this week when the struggling Buffalo Sabres fired Lindy Ruff. He had spent 16 seasons behind the Buffalo bench, the longest-active tenured NHL coach by far and the second longest in the four major American team sports behind Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. Since Ruff was named Buffalo's head coach on July 21, 1997, there have been 170 coaching changes in the NHL. Now Nashville's Barry Trotz has the longest tenure in hockey, as he was hired as the expansion team's coach in 1998. Read More >>
Rockets at Nets Picks and NBA Betting Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 2/22/2013
The Rockets might need to wear name tags for this game. The team played Wednesday night after making some deals that saw a lot of faces change locations, but everyone will be in place this time around. In the long term the moves will give the team more of a fast, run-first look that coach Kevin McHale favors. In the short term, though, the question bettors need to ponder is what impact it will have on the team now. Read More >>
Sharks at Blackhawks Picks and NHL Betting Odds
by Dave Schwab - 2/22/2013
The San Jose Sharks will try and hand the Chicago Blackhawks their first loss in regulation this season when the two Western Conference foes square off this Friday night at the United Center. The game is set to get underway at 8:30 p.m. (ET), and it will be broadcast nationally on the NHL Network. Read More >>
North Dakota State at Akron Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Alan Matthews - 2/22/2013
ESPN created its BracketBusters event back in the 2002-03 season in an effort to match strong mid-major programs against one another in nonconference matchups to improve those teams' strength of schedule and, thus, RPI rating. It was a great idea because most traditional powers won't schedule dangerous mid-major teams and certainly would never travel to one of those schools. Read More >>
Sabres at Maple Leafs Picks and NHL Betting Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 2/21/2013
I graduated from college 16 years ago. I was a senior when Lindy Ruff was hired as the head coach of the Buffalo Sabres. A whole lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then, but this will be the first game since then that Ruff will not be the man in charge. The longest tenured coach in the sport - and second longest in North American sports behind only Gregg Popovich - is suddenly unemployed after the disappointing start to the season for Buffalo, and the Sabres are in a very unfamiliar position right now. Cincinnati at Connecticut Picks and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Dave Schwab - 2/21/2013
In a battle between two teams desperately trying to climb the ranks of the Big East standings, the Cincinnati Bearcats pay a visit to the XL Center this Thursday night to tangle with the Connecticut Huskies. Tip off for this conference clash is set for 7 p.m. (ET), and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN. Read More >>
Spurs at Clippers Picks and NBA Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 2/21/2013
It's a potential Western Conference Finals preview on Thursday night when the Spurs and Clippers meet for the third time this season, and it's a chance for L.A. to cut into San Antonio's 4.5-game lead over the No. 3 Clips for the top spot in the West. With the way that Spurs coach Gregg Popovich likes to rest his veteran guys, you never know what might happen to San Antonio late in the season. A win also would clinch the season series for L.A., which might have head-to-head tiebreaker implications. Read More >>
Santa Clara at Gonzaga Picks and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 2/20/2013
If this was an alumni game it would be a heck of a point guard battle, with John Stockton and Steve Nash trading punches all night. Alas, that's not going to happen. This is still, though, a wildly compelling game. Gonzaga has been good for impossibly long, but they are in rare heights right now. They are ranked third in the country - their highest ranking in nine years - and have the best win percentage in the country. Read More >>
