Blackhawks at Coyotes Picks and NHL Betting Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 2/7/2013
The Chicago Blackhawks are the only team that hasn't yet suffered a regulation loss. With eight wins and two overtime losses they have a point in every game, and they are established in first place in their division as a result. They aren't exactly making it easy on themselves, though. They have come from behind five times in wins and in both of their eventual losses. On Saturday they tied the game up in Calgary with just 2.3 seconds left before winning in the shootout. Read More >>
Minnesota at Michigan State Picks and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 2/6/2013
There is no such thing as an easy game in the Big Ten right now. These teams certainly aren't going to have one here. These squads played the last game of 2012 in the Big Ten, and Minnesota won convincingly - 76-63 That was their first win against the Spartans in the regular season since 2006. Michigan State is a better team now than they were then, though, and they are at home. They will be hungry for revenge. They will be also ne anxious to maintain their momentum - their only loss in the last eight was a strong effort at Indiana. Read More >>
Ducks at Avalanche Picks and NHL Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 2/6/2013
In my opinion, the Anaheim Ducks are more often than not like the Buffalo Bills of the NFL in that the Ducks are generally the third wheel of the trio of NHL clubs in their own state. The Stanley Cup Champion Kings are in downtown L.A., and anyone who is a Los Angeles native will tell you that Anaheim is not L.A. And then you have the San Jose Sharks, who have been a very good team for years and often one of the most entertaining to watch. The Ducks? They do have the 2007 Cup but often are just sort of blah to follow. Read More >>

Lightning at Flyers Picks and NHL Betting Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 2/5/2013
Coming into the season the Tampa Bay Lightning were a team I really liked - an underappreciated team that has a chance to be a real contender. Through their first eight games they haven't disappointed. Their 12 points are among the league leaders, and they are already establishing strong control in the Southeast Division. Most impressively, their 39 goals scored is eight more than any other team, and their +18 goal differential is the best in the sport as well. Last year they could score reasonably well, but they were even easier to score on. This year they have made real progress, and that makes them very dangerous. Read More >>
Warriors at Rockets Picks and NBA Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 2/5/2013
It's probably time to call Jeremy Lin what he is: a solid enough NBA player but not worthy of all the attention he receives. And it's probably fair to say Houston might have a little buyer's remorse - well, maybe not from a marketing perspective -- over signing Lin to a $25 million contract this offseason. Read More >>
Boston College at Miami Picks and NCAA Betting Odds
by Dave Schwab - 2/5/2013
It will be a battle between last place and first place in the ACC this Tuesday night when the Boston College Eagles try and hand the Miami Hurricanes their first conference loss of the season. This clash is slated to tip off at 7 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast on ESPN3. Read More >>
Bulls at Pacers Picks and NBA Betting Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 2/4/2013
It's a February battle for Central Division supremacy, as the visiting Bulls sit just one game ahead of the Pacers heading into this one. Being in first place now really doesn't prove anything, and both teams are almost certain to be heading to the postseason, but the mental boost from winning a divisional tilt like this can't be understated. Oklahoma at Iowa State Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Alan Matthews - 2/4/2013
With the NFL season now in the rear-view mirror of the sporting scene as of Sunday night, it's really time to start focusing on college basketball and the upcoming March Madness. Prepare for plenty of "bubble watches" over the next six weeks or so, and two teams probably not far off that bubble face off in Big 12 action on Monday as Oklahoma visits Iowa State. Read More >>
Bruins at Maple Leafs Picks and NHL Hockey Odds
by Alan Matthews - 2/2/2013
Want to know why the Boston Bruins are considered top Stanley Cup favorites this season? They can thank the Toronto Maple Leafs, in part. You see, Boston's No. 1 goalie, first-line forward and the team's top young defenseman all arrived courtesy of the Leafs - well, you have to credit the Bruins' front office too. In 2009, Boston traded a good-but-not-great Phil Kessel to Toronto for two-round draft picks and a second-rounder. Read More >>
Michigan at Indiana Picks and NCAA Basketball Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 2/2/2013

Yale at Harvard Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Alan Matthews - 2/1/2013
You have to love the Ivy League. It's clearly the only Division I basketball conference that truly puts academics ahead of athletics. For one, there are no athletic scholarships available to Ivy League schools. Instead, they give top athletes a lot of financial aid. Most Ivy League schools double the size of grants meant for middle-income families. Also, the Ivy League only plays its conference games on Fridays and Saturdays - thus no disruption of classes. And finally, the Ivy is the only D-I conference without a postseason tournament. The regular-season champ gets the NCAA Tournament bid. Read More >>
Cavaliers at Pistons Picks and NBA Betting Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 2/1/2013
Years from now, chances are very good that this won't be a game that people will look back on fondly. People will not tell their grandchildren where they were on the day the Cavs traveled to Detroit. Heck, by next week most of the people at the game will likely have forgotten they were ever there. This is a dud of a game - the ultimate in midseason doldrums. Read More >>
Grizzlies at Thunder Picks and NBA Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 1/31/2013
I really don't understand what Memphis Grizzlies ownership is doing by trading Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday. Of course, no team wants to pay what is going to be a very punitive luxury tax by going over the salary cap under the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement. But the Grizzlies, who are as cash-strapped as any team in the league (reportedly lost $12.5 million last year), already got under the cap with their recent salary dump trade of reserves Marreese Speights, Wayne Ellington (those two were in the rotation) and Josh Selby along with a future first-round pick to Cleveland. Avalanche at Flames Picks and NHL Betting Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 1/31/2013
This is supposed to be a hectic, compact season thanks to the lockout, but the Flames apparently didn't get the memo. They beat Edmonton on Saturday night to earn their first win, and they have been off since. For bettors, the trick here is to determine whether that will be a positive - a second training camp of sorts to iron out the kinks and play some better hockey than they have - or a negative early on. Colorado will be comparatively exhausted heading into this one. This is the fourth game of a road trip that saw them in San Jose Saturday, Edmonton Monday, and Vancouver Wednesday. There isn't an easy game in that group, so there could be some bumps and bruises - physical and mental - heading into this one. Read More >>

Northwestern at Michigan Picks and College Basketball Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 1/30/2013
If this game plays out at all like it should it won't be close. Let's get that out there to begin with. So why is a game like this worth discussing? Well, the Michigan Wolverines will be debuting their shiny No. 1 ranking in the AP Poll. The last time they were looking down on the rest of basketball world was during the 1992-93 season - the "Fab Five" era - and most of the stars of this current team weren't even born yet. It has been a seemingly endless wait for the return to glory, but Michigan fans now feel it. Now it remains to be seen if the team can handle their lofty ranking with the same calm determination they have handled the rest of this season with the exception of the first half of their lone loss at Ohio State.
